Pure sand-lime brick characterizes this barren, south-facing soil in Ollersdorf. Year after year, the Veltliner from this parcel impresses with an enormously smoky mineral elegance, tight-knit, swift, firm and powerful on the palate. Our most demanding and at the same time most exciting vineyard!
Jancis Robinson: "Big and beefy nose, like an essence of Grüner Veltliner. Good, sleek texture and lots of freshness. Owes its vitality to the real kick of tingly acidity on the finish. Very long. Pretty smart!" 17,0
Robert Parkers Wine Advocate: "The 2020 Grüner Veltliner Kalkvogel is the "top selection" from Zillinger's best limestone terroir. It was matured in large wooden barrels, aged for one year without agitation on the full lees and bottled unfiltered. This intensely lemon colored Veltliner opens with a concentrated but fine, elegantly fruity and flinty bouquet that has grass and earthy notes and is as fine and pure as it is deep and multi-layered. Lush, refined and mouthfilling on the palate, this is a concentrated, juicy, round and quite hedonistic Veltliner with remarkable finesse and intensity but also this lovely playful character. The finish is very intense, long and salty and indicates great aging capacity of this complex white that could eventually be reminiscent of a traditional white Rioja one day. 13% stated alcohol. Screw cap closure. Tasted in December 2021."
